10 Reasons To Have a Professional Bra Fitting

The statistics are out! Approximately 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra! That's a lot of women who are uncomfortable, who are getting no support whatsoever from their bra and who are denying themselves the opportunity to look truly fantastic in their outerwear.
A bra is not 'just a bra'. A bra should support, lift and shape your body. It should help elongate your torso and should give you the appearance of looking trimmer. It should also be the foundation for your fashion. As well as controlling the 'vertical movement' (studies done by The Australian Institute of Sport have concluded that breasts can rise and fall anywhere between 8 and 18 centimetres during sport, depending on their size), there are many other reasons you must be regularly fitted for this very important piece of clothing. Here are 10 reasons why you need to call a professional bra fitter: -

Support
You need to be in the right size bra so that you are getting proper support. The mid-line of your breasts (where the nipple is) should be sitting half way between your shoulder and your elbow. Having the right support is especially important while you are playing sport and even doing everyday things like doing the housework or gardening. Your bra shouldn't ride up, you should not have to continuously pull it down and the straps should stay comfortably in place. You should also feel that any vertical movement (or bounce) is minimised.
Stop breast tissue damage
There are many reasons that breast tissue damage occurs. Being in the wrong size bra is one of them. We need to care for our breasts by doing regular breast checks, but also it is important to wear a well fitting bra. Other reasons breast tissue damage can occur is because of sudden weight gain or weight loss, being pregnant, through breast feeding or not being properly supported while playing sport or being active.

Foundation for your fashion
When you are wearing a properly fitted bra you create a fantastic foundation for your fashion, meaning your clothes hang properly and look great on. If you are wearing the wrong size bra you can sometimes appear larger, or it can create the illusion of extra tummy. By wearing the right size bra you will help elongate the appearance of your torso, which as well as giving you a trimmer look, will make your outerwear look that much better.

Two instead of four
This goes without saying. You should have two well defined breasts (unless you are wearing a sports bra and you will have the 'single bump!'). All your breast tissue should be within the cup, with none of it spilling out the sides or over the top to give the illusion of extra boob!

The dreaded back fat
Depending on the bra, you can help flatten out the 'dreaded back fat' by wearing a bra with a wider belt. I have a fantastic bra called the Sophisticates bra that can do this for you, plus it is the perfect bra to wear under shirts and jumpers, now that the weather is cooling off.

Welts and bra flinging
Stop the welts and the bra flinging. If you get to the end of the day and end up with nasty red welts over your shoulders or around your middle then you need to be properly fitted for a new bra. The other sign of disgust in your current bra is when you fling it off in relief at the end of the day. You should be able to wear your bra all day without really feeling it.

The changing body
It is important to be fitted regularly, at least every 12 months or so, as everyone's body changes over time. You might lose a bit of weight or put some on. You might need a different bra for that time of the month if you notice a change in size. Being pregnant means you will need something without underwire, and you could go up a few sizes during the course of your pregnancy. There are also maternity bras available for once you are feeding and specialist bras for those who have undergone surgery and are wearing a prosthesis.

Individual needs
You need to have more than one bra in your 'lingerie wardrobe'. Not only should you be washing your bras after about two days wear, you will also need different bras to accommodate your different needs. If you play sport then you will need an Active bra or Crossback sports bra. If you have a bigger bust an Active bra is handy when doing housework, gardening or when you are that bit more active. A Convertible bra is essential during summer if you wear strapless or halter neck dresses. You might need something more plunging, such as the Plunge bra, if you have a lower cut dress that you wear out in the evenings. T-shirt bras or Contour bras are perfect for everyday and to wear under t-shirts or tighter tops. These also eliminate any nipple showing through. You might also want to have a look at the Private Collection or Boutique range for that something a little more sexy or pretty for that special occasion. Don't limit yourself to just one bra! As I always say...Life is too short to wear boring underwear!

The right size from the start
If you have a teenage daughter, niece, cousin, sister or friend it is really important that they are in the right fitting bra right from the start. Often it can be hard to drag a self conscious teenage girl along for a bra fitting so contact me and arrange to have her fitted in the privacy of your home. Good habits should start young to avoid a lifetime of uncomfortable bras and potential breast tissue damage.

Spoil Yourself
Women are busy creatures and often put themselves last. As the natural nurturer of the household we usually make sure everyone else is taken care of before we worry about ourselves. Here is the perfect chance to really spoil yourself and get some gorgeous bras and lounge wear complimentary of a fantastic company. Get some girls together, have a few glasses of bubbles and get yourself properly fitted and into some beautiful bras!
